Open Ph.D. Position in Data Visualization
Northeastern University’s Visualization Group is thrilled to announce multiple open Ph.D. positions under the esteemed guidance of Dr. Lace Padilla. We are seeking motivated and enthusiastic candidates with a strong passion for exploring the intricacies of data visualization, and its profound impact on communication, decision-making, cognition, and perception.
Position Overview:
As a Ph.D. student in our dynamic research lab, you will be deeply immersed in innovative projects, striving to unravel the complexities of how visual representations influence human understanding and behavior. You will work closely with Dr. Lace Padilla and other prominent members of the Visualization Group, contributing to groundbreaking research that spans a variety of topics related to data visualization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct high-quality research under the mentorship of Dr. Lace Padilla, with a focus on data visualization and its implications for communication, decision-making, cognition, and perception.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of researchers, designers, and experts within the Visualization Group.
- Participate in the development, execution, and analysis of experimental studies.
- Present research findings at national and international conferences.
- Contribute to the writing and publication of research papers in reputed journals.
Qualifications:
- A Master’s degree in Computer Science, Psychology, Cognitive Science, Design, or Undergraduate Degree in a related field.
- A strong foundation in research methodologies, statistics, and data analysis.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, JavaScript, D3.js, or Vega-Lite is highly desirable.
- A keen interest in data visualization, human perception, and cognition.
- Excellent communication and collaborative skills.
- A proactive and self-motivated approach to research.
